Poverty is Complex
Guatemala has a population of 17 million people and more than half the population lives under the poverty line. The last 29 years of working with the poor in Guatemala has taught us that Poverty is multi-faceted. Most people think of economic poverty when they hear the word, but poverty itself comes in many different forms. We have identified 8 Forms of Poverty to help us understand how we can holistically empower those we serve to overcome the poverty that afflicts them.
We Walk Alongside the Poor
Even the poorest Guatemalan communities have leaders. When we establish long term relationships with at risk communities we invite the community leaders to engage and participate in a community transformation process. We do this through community centers.
